December 9, 2011 TO: Niagara News Media “Quick Wins” Home Energy Program Launched in Niagara $70,000 Environment Canada grant helps Niagara non-profits offer a unique home energy program.
Five Niagara “green” organizations have teamed up to help local residents reduce their energy bills.
Commonplace Eco-Village, Niagara Sustainability Initiative, NOTL Sustainability Network, Sustainable Niagara and Niagara Peninsula Homes Team E.N.E.R.G.I Program (Enterprise Niagara for Employment Resources and Green Initiatives) have launched a collaborative home energy reduction program called “Quick Wins”. The program enables homeowners to easily reduce heating and cooling costs through simple and effective home upgrades. Better yet, the program is a free-of-charge service for Niagara homeowners.
Starting on November 7, 2011 the non-profit collaborative began offering energy audits to homeowners in Niagara. Draft-proofing materials are installed at no cost to the homeowner. The “Quick Wins” program has arrived at a great time since winter is approaching and home heating bills are beginning to ramp up. The draft-proofing approach employed by Sustainable Niagara has been proven to save homeowners up to 20% on heating bills.
Tony Barrett, Executive Director of Commonplace Eco-Village, is an experienced home energy auditor. “Most energy efficiency upgrades are expensive, but we can reduce energy costs for free. We’re very excited to offer this program to Niagara homeowners, especially those with older homes” Mr. Barrett said. The “Quick Wins” Home Energy Program will only be offered for a short time and homeowners should jump at the opportunity.
