BIZ BUZZ: Dream comes true for Niagara Peninsula Homes

It’s a dream come true for Niagara Peninsula Homes. One that has been in the works for several years - a space to call their own that will be the non-profit’s headquarters and home base for many of its programs. The two-year project came to an end when it celebrated the grand opening of its Community Resource Centre on Sept. 18. That day, they showed off the product of their hard work to restore and convert the old grocery warehouse on Victoria Street.

Feds invest $512,000 in Welland Job Skills Agency

A Welland-based non-profit that empowers youth by giving them a big leap forward in the world of skilled construction trades has received a half-million-dollar boost from the federal government to continue doing so. Niagara Peninsula Homes Inc. is receiving an investment for its project to help 24 Niagara youths gain experience necessary to make a successful transition to the job market or return to school.

But 18-year-old Melissa Walls — the proud mother of two-year-old Ryleigh — is not only earning her high school diploma at the Pope Francis Centre, she is helping other young mothers to do the same.
