Travis Burger entered Team ENERGI (TE) program in November of 2012 with considerable life and employment barriers, this is Travis’s own story.

10 years ago, you could have asked anyone who knew me, family, teachers, friends, acquaintances what they thought of me and where I'd end up down the road and they all would have said dead, in jail or on the streets.

The year before I went into the Team ENERGI program I lost my Grandfather to suicide, lost my left eye due to a traumatic assault and soon after dropped out of college. I went into a deep depression and struggled heavily with alcoholism and drug addiction. I had no job, no income, no car, lived at my grandparent’s house and was driving them crazy.

I was introduced to NPH through the Job Gym and just thought it's a paid program and you get a cash bonus at the end of it. The addict in me was just looking for something to support my habit moving forward. Nonetheless I was accepted and that's when I met David Young and Paul Jacques. Let me tell you I did not make it easy for these two men day in and day out. I showed up hungover and out of it more than half the time. But I can honestly say they were the first people in my life to sit me down and tell me they were honestly worried about my well-being and that they didn't want me going on the way I was.

I was defensive at first but when they gave me the ultimatum of either I seek help or I will not continue in the program and will not graduate, I chose to put myself on a waiting list for a rehab. Needless to say these two men did not have to stick with me day in and day out and offer me the help they did but I could tell they both genuinely cared.

I'm speaking on this story to tell anybody joining the program, don't waste your time like I did, don't give these guys a hard time, they really do care, they really want to pass on what they know and they want you to grow and succeed in life.

I learned a lot from this program, gained a few good friends and relationships I have to this day, even though I'm not in construction now or trades, they helped me get the help I needed and find who I really was. I am currently the top salesman at Welland Toyota year upon year since I started two years ago.

I have truly found my passion in life and my whole life has opened to something I could never have imagined when I started on this journey all those years ago. I'd like to thank NPH and especially David and Paul for all that they did for me and continue to do for the people. Travis Burger
